Cocoa Pods from the tree that gives us chocolate, Theobroma cacao, are great for terrariums and aquariums. Once full of cocoa beans, it’s now a long hollow pod many species can enjoy.
In a terrarium, the Cocoa Pod creates an interesting and unique shape. They can serve as hides for small animals such as frogs and geckos, and as food for isopods and springtails.
When placed in an aquarium, they can be a hides and food for fish and shrimp. They are rich and tannins and have antimicrobial properties. We recommend boiling the pods before adding them to your aquarium to ensure they are waterlogged enough to sink and have begun the initial release of tannins. Cool to room temperature before adding them to your aquarium.
