Description
Smooth Stag Beetle (Lucanus placidus)
Native to the great lakes area of Canada and the United States, inhabiting temperate forests. Adults will consume fruits such as vegetables and specialty jelly for beetle consumption.
Adult smooth stag beetles are roughly 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length.
These are sold as larva and will stay buried in substrate until they emerge as adults. Larvae development typically takes 9 months, and the lifespan of an adult beetle is four to six months.
The picture is not necessarily of the animal that will ship but a representation of this species/morph.
